PTZOptics on Panels
In November 2025, PTZOptics Chief Revenue Officer Paul Richards and Customer Success Manager Jon Roberts joined Videoguys.com to participate in NDI November, a month-long, free, virtual event series dedicated to exploring the power of NDI technology for modern live production. Throughout November 2025, NDI November brought together industry experts, vendors, dealers, and system integrators to deliver an in-depth look at NDI workflows and innovations shaping the future of IP-based production.
Jon discussed why every PTZOptics camera now includes built-in NDI® HX at no extra cost. During the chat, he discussed how NDI allows a single Ethernet cable to deliver power (PoE), video, audio, PTZ control, and tally – simplifying setups for live production, houses of worship, education, corporate AV, and more.
Paul’s session focused on those who are new to NDI or need a refresher. Paul’s book, “The Unofficial Guide to NDI,” served as the basis for this beginner-friendly NDI Primer, breaking down exactly what NDI (Network Device Interface) is, why it’s revolutionizing live production, and how it simplifies IP-based video workflows.
- The three technologies having the greatest impact on remote production.
- Meeting the demand for more remote productions without breaking the bank.
- What tech advancements are right around the corner for remote production.

Firmware & Product Updates
Move 4K and Link 4K Upgraded
Hive-Linked is Live! After a stellar beta run, the PTZOptics Hive-Linked function is production-ready for the Move 4K and Link 4K PTZ cameras! Hive-Linked allows cameras to connect directly to a Hive Studio from any network automatically from anywhere in the world with internet access. With just a few clicks in the camera’s web interface, you can link your PTZOptics camera to your Hive Studio.
With Hive, you get:
- Remote PTZ, color, and exposure control
- Cloud recording and output
- Multi-location management in one platform
- Easy deployment (after initial setup) – ship the camera anywhere and it reconnects automatically
Super Zoom is a digital-assist zoom feature that doubles the total zoom range of the camera by applying a 2X digital magnification to the 4K sensor before entering the optical zoom providing a smoother zoom transition. The camera always preserves a 1080p output, even at maximum Super Zoom magnification.
Effective Super Zoom ranges:
- 12X Optical → 24X Total Zoom
- 20X Optical → 40X Total Zoom
- 30X Optical → 60X Total Zoom
High Res Snapshot turns your PTZ camera into a high-resolution still camera capturing images in up to 4K.
Presenter Lock Mode is the upgraded version of the original bounding-box tracking interface. This setting allows users to choose how the camera locks onto a selected presenter while ignoring others in the frame.
Tilt Lock is a tracking setting that prevents the camera from moving vertically while still following horizontal movement. This is particularly useful in classroom or speaker settings where an unnecessary tilt motion becomes distracting. This setting reduces “camera wandering,” especially in wide rooms.
Improvements to Auto Framing Behavior allow Auto Framing to automatically adjust zoom based on the number of people in the shot, zooming out for groups and zooming in for individuals. Previously, Auto Framing always zoomed fully out before reframing, which felt slow and robotic. This change provides a more natural, intelligent framing experience.
FreeD Output Optimized for Unreal Engine now sends sends accurate real-time camera position data (X, Y, Z, Pan, Tilt, Roll) to virtual production systems like Unreal Engine. We made this change to support expansion into virtual production and AR/XR workflows, reduce setup friction, eliminate workarounds, and provide lower cost solutions for use with AR/XR platforms.
G711 Audio Encoding is a widely adopted, uncompressed audio codec used in telephony, intercom systems, conferencing platforms, and other real-time communication workflows. It delivers low-latency, narrowband audio and is natively supported by SIP devices, soft codecs, VoIP systems, and many third-party control platforms. With G711 encoding, the camera can now output audio in a format instantly recognized by these systems.
Updates to Upgrade Tool
PTZOptics has updated the Upgrade Tool to version 2.9.7 for MacOS, providing equivalent features to the Windows Upgrade Tool. Regarding user experience and navigation, this update simplifies and reorganizes menu options to provide a more intuitive navigation experience. Specifically, we’ve added a new AUTO option under Firmware Type, helping reduce confusion when selecting firmware for updates.
Thanks for reading the PTZOptics Insider! We’ll be back soon with updates on everything PTZOptics.
